PREAMBLE

Having lived independently throughout her history, having fought for her rights and freedoms;

The Turkish Nation that made the Revolution of May 27,1960 by excercising her right to resist a power that lost its legitimacy with its unconstitutional and unlawful attitudes and behaviors;

By gaining speed and inspiration from Turkish nationalism which collects all its individuals in fate, pride, and sorrow jointly as a whole indivisible around national conscience and ideals and takes as a goal to exalt constantly our nation in a spirit of national unity as an honorable member of the world's family of nations having equal rights and;

By being conscious fully of the principle of "Peace at Home, Peace in the World", the spirit of National Struggle, national sovereignty and devotion to Atatürk's Revolution;

In order to establish the democratic state of law with all its legal and social foundations which will enable to realize and assure human rights and freedoms, national solidarity, social justice, peace and prosperity of the individual and society;

Adopts and proclaims this Constitution prepared by the Republic of Turkey Constituent Assembly and entrusts It to the vigilant guardianship of her sons and daughters who are in love with freedom, justice and virtue, with the belief that the real assurance is taking place in the hearts and wills of the citizens.

 

PART ONE
GENERAL PRINCIPLES

I. Form of the State

Article 1- The Turkish State is a Republic.

 

II. Characteristics of the Republic

Article 2- The Turkish Republic is a national, democratic, secular and social state of law based on human rights and the fundamental principles specified in the “Preamble”.

 

III. Integrity of the State; Its Official Language and Capital city

Article 3- The Turkish State is an indivisible whole with its homeland and its nation.

The Official Language is Turkish.

The Capital city is Ankara.
