PART ONE
General Provisions

Object and scope:

Article 1 – This law regulates the principles and procedures of the system and procedure of the election of deputies, electoral districts and the number of deputies, the election period and time, by-elections, the renewal of elections, the rules of eligibility and candidacy and principles and practices related to the election of deputies.
 

Electoral system and its procedure:

Article 2 – The election of deputies shall be one staged. The election shall be held according to the proportional representation, with general, equal end secret ballot, on the same day, on the whole country and under the administration and supervision of the judiciary.

Elector shall cast his or her vote by himself/herself and with full freedom.

Counting, breakdown, writing to minute of the votes shall be performed publicly.

 

Number and distribution of deputies

Article 3 – (As amended: October 27,1995 - 4125/8 th Art.)

The number of deputies shall be 550. (The last two sentences annulled: By the decision of the Constitutional Court dated November 18,1995 and Docket No:1995/54, Decree No:1995/59).
